There’s a myriad of projects underway at the Centenary Suburbs Men’s Shed (Qld). Whilst on the road, AMSA’s Marty and Stuart dropped into the Shed to find out more about one space in particular – the Machine Shop.
It all started with an under-utilised storage area of the Shed. Which, after much discussion, was transformed into a Machine Shop.
Steam trains were on the top of the list of projects, however the problem of requiring tracks was a challenge not to be overcome.
So, it was decided the first project off the rank would be the build of a quarter scale model Allchin Traction Engine, which took a matter of years to assemble (particularly with a few lockdowns along the way).
The Allchin Traction Engine can hold four adults. Watch it in action below.
With the conclusion of that project, the build of an Atkinson Steam Truck is now underway.
