I am proud to serve as Patron of the Australian Men’s Shed Association.
As we all face the COVID-19 pandemic I wanted to take the opportunity to say a few words to members, supporters and the broader community.
Men’s sheds do so much in our communities to bring people together, help them feel good about themselves and maintain an active body and mind.
The shed’s themselves may be temporarily closed as part of the response to COVID-19 but the mission of helping people stay connected does not change.
As Australia faces the COVID-19 pandemic it is critical that we follow the direction of authorities around social distancing and avoiding non-essential gatherings.
But social distancing does not mean social isolation.
Staying in touch and connected has never been more important.
I know from speaking to the Association CEO Paul Sladdin that the Association is exploring new initiatives to help members stay connected through this difficult time.
In the mean time I encourage all Men’s Shed members – and indeed all Australians – to stay connected. Call or message your mates and make sure they are doing okay.
It is so important.
Stay safe, stay kind and stay well.
