About our shed

About Us

WHO WE ARE
Nambour Men’s Shed (NMS) is a non-profit community organisation affiliated with the Australian Men’s Shed Association. We have been proudly servicing the Nambour and greater Sunshine Coast community since 2011.
WHAT WE DO
NMS provides a safe place that encourages social interaction, friendship and other benefits of being part of a community.
We assist members to improve their skills in the workshop by providing safety inductions and advice to get members comfortable with using the machines and workshop tools. NMS members can build anything that they want for themselves or help out with Shed projects and community activities.
OUR FACILITIES
NMS has separate wood and metal working areas with an excellent range of tools and equipment to tackle nearly any project. A greenhouse is available for any horticultural enthusiasts and the smoko area provides a cool shady area for a chinwag.
Our Shed is open to members on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Thursdays are dedicated to special needs members and their support workers.
HOW WE OPERATE
NMS has a management committee, elected by the Shed members every 2 years, and they are responsible for the day-to-day running of the shed as per the Management Handbook. NMS members pay an annual fee for the shed and also daily or weekly shed fees. The primary purpose of Shed Fees is to help support the cause of Nambour Men’s Shed and to pay for insurance. Shed Fees enable financial members to use all equipment and the facilities at the shed.
HOW TO JOIN
Membership is open to all men 18+ years of age. Come down to the shed during opening hours and check us out. We’ll provide a Shed Handbook for your information and an application form to complete.
Annual Fee: $50 for New Member and $40 for Membership Renewal, plus
Daily Fee: $5/day or $10/week (Mon-Wed, Fri).

Positive impacts

Camaraderie

"I've found a great group of mates"

Mateship is an important pillar of every Men’s Shed – first and foremost the shed is a place for men to knock about with a group of like-minded mates.

Community

“I give back to the community”

Men’s Sheds are vital community investments delivering programmes and activities that foster community spirit and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia.

Health & Wellbeing

“My health and wellbeing is better because I'm a Shedder”

Many shedders experience improved mental health outcomes. Men (and women) involved at their local Shed report increased self-esteem through participation and learning new skills; de-stigmatisation of experiencing mental health and de-stigmatisation of prevalent social issues related to mental health.

Watch — More than just a shed

The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.

AMSA was established in 2007 by a collection of Australian independent community-based Men’s Sheds to represent, support and promote the Men’s Shed movement. It was founded on the principle of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. It acts as a central hub for information exchange.
