About Us

Our Aims

Our aim is to improve the health of men in our community.

The Maroochy Men's Shed gives men a safe and friendly place to get together a few times each week. Mateship, men’s health, woodwork, metalwork, the discussion group, the camera group, the music group are all vital to the success of our Shed.

Who are we?

In September 2012 three Maroochydore Rotarians asked the question, “Is a Men’s Shed needed in Maroochydore?” From that initial meeting of 12 potential members we have grown to over 100 members and growing fast. We owe a debt of gratitude to Terry Welch, our secretary, who has allowed us to meet at his industrial shed in Kuluin from the beginning.

We are an incorporated Shed, affiliated with the Queensland and Australian Men’s Shed Association. We are a not for profit organisation providing a safe environment for our members to work with fellow Shedders.

Our Facilities

We have a large collection of wood and metal working tools and equipment as one would expect. Crammed into our temporary building we also have an area for visiting speakers, round table discussions, morning tea, library and computer room. We have a very active camera club, plus music, gardening and health groups.

Our Shed is open formally on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. We open on other days as required. This has become important because our temporary shed is now far too small to allow our members to use the tools and equipment safely on just those two days.

Positive impacts

Camaraderie

"I've found a great group of mates"

Mateship is an important pillar of every Men’s Shed – first and foremost the shed is a place for men to knock about with a group of like-minded mates.

Community

“I give back to the community”

Men’s Sheds are vital community investments delivering programmes and activities that foster community spirit and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia.

Health & Wellbeing

“My health and wellbeing is better because I'm a Shedder”

Many shedders experience improved mental health outcomes. Men (and women) involved at their local Shed report increased self-esteem through participation and learning new skills; de-stigmatisation of experiencing mental health and de-stigmatisation of prevalent social issues related to mental health.

Watch — More than just a shed

The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.

AMSA was established in 2007 by a collection of Australian independent community-based Men’s Sheds to represent, support and promote the Men’s Shed movement. It was founded on the principle of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. It acts as a central hub for information exchange.
