About our shed

About Us

Allora Men's Shed is a friendly place for men to gather for mateship & support in our community,. Woodworking is our main activity, plus community projects and support .We will endeavor to cater for any member's interests.
We welcome all comers, skilled or unskilled. If you are skilled we encourage you to pass on your skills, or learn from others at the Shed.
We also welcome those with disabilities to come along and join in, however they do need to be able to look after themselves as we are not a care facility.
The shed is open on Tuesdays,Thursdays & Saturdays from 8:30am -12:30pm (smoko 10:00ish)
All men are welcome to come along and have a chat, a cuppa and a look at what we get up to. The main aim is to improve the general health and wellbeing of members by having an input in the community and each other, and a bit of fun.
The shed is registered with the Australian Men's Shed Association. www.mensshed.org
There is an annual membership fee of $50.00, payable on application for membership.

Shed Activities

Like all sheds our activities can be many and varied, depending on the requests of our community and the considerable expertise of our male members. Woodwork has been the easiest and earliest occupation, with a comprehensive metal working area. Raised garden beds have occupied the 'green thumb' members. There is a caravanning group that 'get away' together and some members are active in visiting and liaising with fellow men's sheds. A member keeps the local community informed of our activities with a facebook page:- 'allora mens shed 4362'

Positive impacts

Camaraderie

"I've found a great group of mates"

Mateship is an important pillar of every Men’s Shed – first and foremost the shed is a place for men to knock about with a group of like-minded mates.

Community

“I give back to the community”

Men’s Sheds are vital community investments delivering programmes and activities that foster community spirit and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia.

Health & Wellbeing

“My health and wellbeing is better because I'm a Shedder”

Many shedders experience improved mental health outcomes. Men (and women) involved at their local Shed report increased self-esteem through participation and learning new skills; de-stigmatisation of experiencing mental health and de-stigmatisation of prevalent social issues related to mental health.

Watch — More than just a shed

The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.

AMSA was established in 2007 by a collection of Australian independent community-based Men’s Sheds to represent, support and promote the Men’s Shed movement. It was founded on the principle of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. It acts as a central hub for information exchange.
