Off the back of Father’s Day, the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is celebrating the contributions of Men’s Sheds and ‘Shedders’ to more than 1,300 Australian communities this Men’s Shed Week (3-9 September 2023).

All around the country Shedders are set to gather throughout the week, celebrating 30 Years of Sheds.

The first community shed for men, ‘The Shed at Goolwa Heritage Club’, opened in Goolwa (South Australia) in February 1993.

From a humble idea in regional Australia, there are now more than 2,500 Sheds operating in 12 countries around world. More than 50,000 Australians directly benefit from participation in the grassroots movement each year.

To mark the 30 year anniversary AMSA’s road trip aptly titled the ‘Tour de Shed’, will head back to the birthplace of Sheds.

AMSA will kick the week off with a BBQ lunch launch at Parliament House, hosted by the Parliamentary Friendship Group of Men’s Sheds, followed by a number of shed visits and events. The week will round out at Goolwa Oval on Friday 8 September with a Shedder’s Big Day Out.

“For 30 years Men’s Sheds have been improving the wellbeing and health of men, by building connections over a shared purpose,” said AMSA Executive Officer David Helmers.

“Thousands of people around the world live longer and happier lives thanks to their humble shed.”

Men’s Shed Week (3 – 9 September) is an annual celebration of ‘all things shedding’ led by the Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA).

Men’s Sheds around the country will also host local events throughout the week, welcoming members and community to celebrate all things shedding. Visit www.mensshed.org/events
