Mate! The shed is a life saver for young and old!
Ben Luvish, Freo Men’s Community Shed WA
I find the shed to be a fantastic place! As a young man with a flair for metal work and DIY. I love that there is an available workshop that doesn’t only give space and tools, but is filled with people with rich knowledge on trades and life.

Always happy to give advice, even if one doesn’t ask, the shed is filled with great devoted people and I very much enjoy coming in and working on my projects with the occasional break for a short yarn with a fellow shedder.
I came to the shed because I needed a solid table, now I also come in to get a bit of breather from life, to get the peace of mind when my hands go idle and enjoy the little pocket of serenity.
I also made my pizza oven at the shed. I get asked a lot about gas ovens or woodfire ovens. I like both, they are both incredible machines that give almost identical results. When catering for large numbers, a gas oven would produce a more consistent quality outcome. For many events, I use a combined wood and LPG system to keep it up to temperature.
Ben’s Easy Dough Recipe
This dough is multi-functional, it can be used for pizzas, focaccia, flat breads and all sort of other short time pastry.
Ingredients
1kg Flour
650ml water
32g fine salt
10g dry yeast
150ml olive oil
Method
- First mix the flour and water until almost blended completely, then add the salt and knead until firm dough, then add yeast until the dough turns slightly softer. Finish with oil until smooth.
 - Cover and let rest in the fridge until doubles in volume, if you want to rest it overnight than cut the yeast by half.
 - Once doubled put on a lightly floured surface and form dough balls:
- 200g for pizza
 - 250g for focaccia
 - 110g for flat bread

Let rest at room temperature in a floured sealed container for 4 hours and then use.
