The newly formed Morgan Community Men’s Shed (South Australia) is already getting involved in the local community, with shed members very busily building not one but three floats for the upcoming Mid Murray Council Christmas Pageant.
The shed has worked closely with Morgan Lions Club who own two of the sculptures being used (a jockey riding a kangaroo and Christmas bells), and Mid Murray Council who own a Puffing Billy, to carefully restore the floats for participation in this year’s pageant.

Led by shed members Gary Frittum and David Blackmore, the shed acquired the three old sculptures to restore for the shed’s inaugural participation in the Pageant. All that was left of the Christmas bells and kangaroo sculptures was a wire frame when they arrived at the shed.
All up, shed members will have spent about three months rejuvenating the sculptures – restoring, painting and placing on trailers ready for reprisal.
The jockey riding a kangaroo will be of particular interest for little ones, with the kangaroo’s pouch set to be filled with Christmas lollies for distribution.
Morgan Community Men’s Shed was established in March 2023 and has already grown to 30 members, proving to be a great community asset.
