This National Volunteer Week (19–25 May 2025), the Australian Men’s Shed Association, supported by major partner Fair Dinkum Builds, proudly celebrated the heart and soul of our sheds — the volunteers. From the committee chairs to the cuppa-makers, it’s the shedders with the tools, the tea, and the tenacity who keep sheds running and communities connected.

With this year’s theme, “Connecting Communities,” Men’s Sheds around the country showcased the power of purpose, mateship, and giving back.

Our Message of Thanks

“Volunteers are the heartbeat of every shed. Without them, there simply wouldn’t be a Men’s Shed movement. This National Volunteers Week, we thank each and every one of them for the work they do and the difference they make — not just in their shed, but in their entire community.”
David Helmers, Executive Officer, AMSA

Thank you to every shed volunteer for the work you do — your efforts truly connect communities and change lives.

🛠 What We Celebrated

  • Thousands of volunteers who create welcoming, hands-on spaces that foster friendship and belonging

  • The quiet achievers on shed committees managing the logistics so the doors can stay open

  • The projects — from bird boxes to community donations — that reflect generosity in action

📊 In our latest Shedder Survey, 60% of members said that contributing to the community is one of the things they value most about being part of a shed.

🎉 Shed Celebrations Across Australia

AMSA hosted events around the country to thank and recognise our volunteers:

  • VIC – Shedder’s BBQ Lunch hosted by Eltham Men’s Shed

From long lunches to evening dinners, these gatherings were filled with gratitude, great food, and the shared stories that bind shed communities together.
