Oh yeah baby – sharpen up those blades, bathe in the sunshine and get excited – days are warmer and longer which equates to green things doing the spring dance. The lawn is about to get wild (well relatively speaking) and pump some chlorophyl into the blades.
Your lawn will need a bit of lovin’ now, add some seaweed solution to feed up the microbes in the soil so they take full advantage of delivering the controlled-release lawn fertiliser that kick starts growth.
Be selective with the fertiliser you use; it should have slow-release nitrogen with very little phosphorus and decent levels of potassium plus the trace elements. Remember that fertiliser can end up in our waterways, phosphorus causes green algae growth that buggers up your fishing expeditions because it kills fish.
Lawn will only absorb the nitrogen it needs; excess nitrogen is wasted and releases into our waterways. Not only that, it’s like throwing your money down the drain. You only need 250grams of lawn fertiliser per square metre (that’s like a small handful).
Raise the mower blades up as the weather warms up, this retains moisture in the ground and encourages more resilient growth for the hotter months ahead. Slow and controlled growth makes for soft lawn that’s a pleasure to roll in.
