About our shed
About Us
Melba Shed is a non-denominational centre for mature-aged men who are not in the full-time work force. Participants pass on skills and enjoy activities in an informal, friendly, non-threatening environment.
The Shed was inspired by the Men’s Sheds network in NSW. We commenced in August 2008 and today we have a regular weekly attendance of over 50 men. Ages range from mid-30s to over 90 with most members aged in the 60-80 years range. We have a total regular membership of about 100 members.
Activities of the Shed over a monthly period usually involve two guest speakers, an external visit to an interesting place in or around Canberra and a sausage sizzle. We have a detailed program with scheduled events for several months ahead and this is on our website and is circulated in our weekly newsletter emailed to all Shed members.

Positive impacts
The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.
AMSA was established in 2007 by a collection of Australian independent community-based Men’s Sheds to represent, support and promote the Men’s Shed movement. It was founded on the principle of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. It acts as a central hub for information exchange.
