About Us

Eden Men's Shed Inc. came about in 2007 through the need of men coming together during a time when Eden was undergoing significant changes – industry around town had scaled or closed down, with many men becoming retrenched or retired.

It was envisaged that a Men's Shed in Eden would offer a place of mate ship where they could come together have a chat and a cuppa and/or work on all sorts of projects, if they so desired, or even learn new skills such as wood and metal working. Over a decade on and the Shed is a hub of thriving activity.

The Shed has, in fact, proven to be very important for men's physical and mental well being in the area. It has also been said that the Shed has made a difference to some men as their outlook on life has been lifted, especially for men who live alone – the social aspect is extremely beneficial and rewarding.

The mix of men who visit the Shed is varied in age and skill sets. Some bring a lifetime of trade skills while others bring skills from other areas, as all share knowledge and learn new skills that they might not have been exposed to before they came together.

Shed Activities

Pool is played predominantly on Tuesday (this is currently in abeyance due to COVID) and is also played on Wednesday and Friday while the metalwork and woodwork shop is in operation. None of the activities are compulsory.

Morning tea is on the days the Shed is open and on the last Friday, of the month lunch is provided, and is prepared by members. A small fee is to be paid for morning tea and on the Friday when lunch is provided the fee is a little higher, but not by much. These "fees" are to cover costs.

Other activities (cards etc.) may be made available if the need arises, and if your needs are bent toward gardening we have a small garden and potting shed to suit these needs, and colouring in books and pencils if you are only 'ever so slightly' artistic. If you want any other type of activity when you join, ask and we will try to accommodate your needs.

Positive impacts

Camaraderie

"I've found a great group of mates"

Mateship is an important pillar of every Men’s Shed – first and foremost the shed is a place for men to knock about with a group of like-minded mates.

Community

“I give back to the community”

Men’s Sheds are vital community investments delivering programmes and activities that foster community spirit and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia.

Health & Wellbeing

“My health and wellbeing is better because I'm a Shedder”

Many shedders experience improved mental health outcomes. Men (and women) involved at their local Shed report increased self-esteem through participation and learning new skills; de-stigmatisation of experiencing mental health and de-stigmatisation of prevalent social issues related to mental health.

Watch — More than just a shed

The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.

AMSA was established in 2007 by a collection of Australian independent community-based Men’s Sheds to represent, support and promote the Men’s Shed movement. It was founded on the principle of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. It acts as a central hub for information exchange.
