Every week, thousands of Australians walk through the doors of more than 1,300 “Sheds” nationwide – and in doing so, they help build healthier, stronger communities, one project and one conversation at a time. Each year the Australian Men’s Shed Association celebrates all things shedding in the week following Father’s Day.

As well all know well, Men’s Sheds deliver programs and activities that foster community spirit, create social connections, and strengthen local networks. They bring together people of all backgrounds to work, share, learn, and support each other – helping to build a more inclusive Australia while improving health and wellbeing.

Supported once again by AMSA major partner Fair Dinkum Builds, this year’s theme “Building Healthy Communities” has aimed to highlight the vital role Sheds play at the heart of their towns and suburbs. Men’s Sheds don’t just build community within their own walls – shedders take their skills and spirit into the wider community, supporting local charities, lending a hand to neighbours, and tackling projects that make a real difference.

Giving back has always been at the heart of the Men’s Shed movement. In fact, 61% of shedders tell us one of their main reasons for being part of a shed is the chance to contribute to their local community. That says a lot about who we are.

Across towns and cities, sheds are leaving a mark that goes well beyond the workshop – building wellbeing, easing isolation, and offering a place where every man can feel he belongs. As we celebrate Men’s Shed Week 2025 and this year’s theme of Building Healthy Communities, I want to thank each of you for the part you play in that story.

We’ve had a great week celebrating… I’ve spoken to radio stations from almost every corner of the country, we helped Newcastle Men’s Shed release their new shed anthem “At the Men’s Shed” and were even joined by Special Envoy for Men’s Health the Hon Dan Repacholi MP and Federal Member for Newcastle Sharon Claydon MP at Elermore Vale Men’s Shed to mark this occasion.

This Men’s Shed Week I’m also excited to announce that we’ve set our sights on sunny Brisbane for the 2026 11th AMSA National Men’s Shed Gathering. Next year we will be joined by the Queensland Men’s Shed Association as Co-Host and our major partner Fair Dinkum Builds, to welcome shedders to Brisbane from 24 March to Thursday 26 March 2026.

Our theme is centred on the philosophy of “Building Healthy Communities” – recognising the practical, social and wellbeing benefits Men’s & Community Sheds bring to men, their families and the wider community. We encourage all sheds to support a member or two to get along to what we know will be another great national event. Keep your eyes out for more info and registration in the coming weeks!

Happy Men’s Shed Week to all that celebrate 🛠️🥳
