VIC Governance Seminar – Geelong

19 March 2024 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm
Free

Unpack the A-Z of governance and make sure you are fully aware of your legal obligation as a Committee member. Whether you’re upcoming, new or you’ve been doing it for a while, there is always more to learn about your legal responsibilities.

This session will help you understand:

  • Legal roles of committee/board members as decision makers
  • Differences between governance and management
  • Legal structure and status of your organisation
  • Importance of rules and legal purpose or objects
  • Four key legal duties of committee/board members
  • Potential liabilities, protecting yourself and your organisation
  • Other relevant laws and additional resources

The sessions are interactive and in plain language with no legal jargon. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions of lawyers who specialise in how the law applies to not-for-profits.

In Victoria, the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) with Justice Connect’s Not-for-profit Law, is providing free customised training on a range of different topics to help Men’s Sheds better understand (and implement) their key responsibilities and legal obligations.

Registration for this seminar is usually $40 per person, however DFFH funding covers all costs associated with your participation. All participants will receive a resource pack and catering, as well as a participation certificate.

Places are strictly limited. Registration is required. Please visit tix.yt/geelonggovernance or contact us on 1300 550 009.
