Smash hit song Yesterday’s Hero features in Shed music video

by theshedonline

When John Paul Young agreed to collaborate with The Australian Men’s Shed Association on a new jingle to promote Men’s Sheds, little did he know it would become a smash hit of a new kind.

The catchy tune was an instant hit among Shedders for a few reasons.

The first is that it’s an earworm. We can almost guarantee you’ll find yourself singing and whistling the tune.

Another reason this ‘hit jingle’ is likely to become  long-lasting anthem for Sheds across Australia and all over the world, is that it captures the essence of the movement.

‘There’s something for you at the Men’s Shed,’ rings out the chorus.

Since its release in November 2020, the video was watched, shared and enjoyed many tens of thousands of times.

But now we can reveal there is more to see. A whole new scene at the start of the clip, previously unseen due to copyright.

The extra scene features a rousing Shed rendition of JPY’s smash hit Yesterday’s Hero, written by Harry Vanda and George Young.

A sincere thank you to Downtown Music Publishing for making it possible for us to show you this previously unseen extended version.

We think there’s a good chance it will make you smile. We also think Shedders will be singing and performing the jingle for many years to come.

But there’s more good news: JPY will host season 3 of The Shed Wireless podcast

The Shed Wireless made its debut in 2020 and is produced by the Australian Men’s Shed Association.

It was created in a backyard shed, soon after COVID-19 public health restrictions forced community sheds to shut their doors for long periods.

Originally hosted by award-winning broadcaster Aaron Kearney OAM, the podcast achieved remarkable early success. It was listened to in more than 40 countries and even ranked 16 in a list of ‘Top Australia Podcasts you must follow in 2020’.

In fact it was Aaron Kearney who headhunted JPY as his successor, due to his own international media commitments.

‘I’m loving the new gig,’ said John Paul Young.

‘It’s actually very cool to see older blokes listening to a podcast.

‘The demand is obviously there because Shedding is not only huge in Australia. It’s growing in other countries such as the UK, Ireland, Canada and the United States.

‘The projects and the mateship surrounding sheds are something to celebrate,’ said JPY.
