BACK TO THE SHED
Noel Williams, Buderim Men’s Shed (QLD)That nasty old virus is now on the wane
And soon we’ll be back in our Shed once again
Oh what a thrill as we drive through the gates
To catch up again with all of our mates.Back to the comradeship that we have missed
The banter the laughter what absolute bliss
At morning tea time we’ll be back round the table
And telling tall stories and many a fable. And won’t it be wonderful hearing once more
The sounds of the hammers the planer and saw
And we know our enthusiasm won’t be diminished
As we pick up on jobs that have been left unfinished. So we’ll busy ourselves just like bees in a hive
And we’ll realise how great it is being alive
We’ll think of the good times that still lie ahead
Because we are members of Buderim Men’s Shed.4 June 2020 at 2:05 pm #2651Dave ClarkeParticipantG’day Ponky… Bloody brilliant mate. I wished I could write poetry and that is the only part of English at school I struggled with.
I send weekly emails to the members of Willo’s shed in Gawler, South Australia, and I was wondering if I could use your poem (with credit to you) in our next email please?
Keep up the great work mate.
I’m a poet
And I didn’t Know it.That’s my best shot. Ha! Ha!
4 June 2020 at 7:51 pm #2654PonkyParticipantHi Dave
Good to hear from you.
I’d be very happy for you to use my poems (there are two) in your weekly emails. I won’t mind if you want to change some of the words to suit your shed.Cheers
Noel Williams5 June 2020 at 8:19 am #2661Dave ClarkeParticipantG’Day Ponky… Thanks for allowing us to showcase your poems in our emails to the members. I will leave them word for word just now with credit to you. Then I think we will print a copy of each poem with our shed name in, still with credit to you. I would like to get them framed and on the wall for all to see.
Some thing we are trying to get up and running is, I have sent a couple of ‘quotes’ out from famous people. I am going to challenge the members to see what quotes they can come up with. The best quotes will go up on a new ‘Wall of Wisdom’ we are going to start as soon as we get back.My quote is going to be… It is okay to get angry, but it is not okay to stay angry.
Many thanks again Noel.
p.s. Your poems will also make it to the wall of wisdom.5 June 2020 at 8:34 am #2663PonkyParticipantHi Dave
The first poem Missing the Shed has been put to music by one of our local musos.
Are you able to put that on the website? If so, how do I send it to you?Cheers
Noel (Ponky)5 June 2020 at 8:50 am #2664Dave ClarkeParticipantG’day Ponky… I have tried to include pictures and videos onto this forum but without success.
The Willo,s Men’s Shed has a youtube channel where we are starting to put videos about the shed and selected videos from other users. Check it out by clicking the link belowWillo’s Men’s Shed Youtube Channel
I know a lot of other men’s sheds around Aussie also have a channel. Does your shed have one?
If you haven’t got one, they are easy to set up. I am sure one of your members would have the skill to navigate through Google’s sign up process. Then your shed can showcase what they are all about, and that includes your poem to music.
I hope this helps.6 June 2020 at 8:27 am #2665Dave ClarkeParticipantG’day Ponky… I had a thought after I posted the last comment. You could email the video or music file to me and I could add it to our Willo’s channel on youtube. Then we could put the link to the song right here on the forum.
If your shed has a youtube channel, you could upload it to there and do the same thing. Then, further to the above ideas, you could contact the administrators of this forum and see what they could possibly do about including it here.
I hope this helps Noel.

10 June 2020 at 10:04 pm #2683Rob VisParticipantHey Noel/Ponky,
I’ve been writing with Dave Clarke and he’s directed me to your poems; I think they are brilliant! Dave and the Willos shed had an article in our newsletter SHarED Times, I was wondering if we could have your permission to publish your poem in our next newsletter?
I manage Men’s Sheds Cymru in Wales, UK and we launched our newsletter just as we went into lockdown. The latest version of SHarED Times can be seen here https://indd.adobe.com/view/97bd307e-12f3-4780-8e9e-a66c1167b8fe
best wishes
Robert V11 June 2020 at 3:34 pm #2701PonkyParticipantHi Robert
I’m more than happy for you to publish my poems in your newsletter. The first one was put to music and sung by one of our local musos but I have no idea how to put it on a web site.
I had a quick scan through the newsletter – it’s very professional and most impressive. It’s amazing how much talent we have in our sheds.Cheers
Noel (Ponky)11 June 2020 at 3:52 pm #2703Dave ClarkeParticipantG’day Ponky… If you know how to attach the file to an email and sent it to me, I can look at including it on Willo’s Men’s Shed channel on you-tube. Then I could place the link here for the other participants to see.
Mt email address is dgclarke1@optusnet.com.au
I took your poems into our committee meeting yesterday and they loved them. They asked me to pass on their thanks for allowing us to use them in our shed.

Missing The Shed… Written by Noel Wiiliams and sung by Ken O’Flaherty
A great effort guys, well done!
15 June 2020 at 8:53 am #2713Dave ClarkeParticipantG’day Ponky… But I am the real deal. Ha! Ha! When I first made contact with our story for the CYMRU newsletter, Rob sent me the link to their website and his email address is the first one. You just need to copy and paste it into your email program.
https://www.mensshedscymru.co.uk/contact-us/
I really like your shed complex, and around 300 members mean you must be doing something right at your shed, well done!
When you are emailing Rob, you could send him the link to the song on you-tube. He may be able to put the link in the newsletter as well.
Keep up the great work Noel
Cheers mate
Dave16 June 2020 at 9:43 am #2737Dave ClarkeParticipantG’day Ponky… We had our first day back at the shed yesterday. We set up a table with information posters and forms for the members to fill out, plus they had their temperature taken. We also put your 2 poems on the table (in frames ready to hang) and the members took the time to read them. They were particularly impressed with the poem ‘Back To The Shed’ and that was because our shed’s name was at the bottom. They loved the fact that you allowed us to use your poem with our name in there.
Many thanks agian for allowing this Ponky.
Regards
Dave -
