About our shed
About Us
Men helping men build a better community.
Our Shed was established to help prevent men from suffering the isolation, loss of purpose and well being that is often associated with men leaving the work force either for health reasons or retirement. It is well known men don’t just go out and talk like women do. WE NEED AN EXCUSE, and the shed and its tools gives us that excuse.
This all leads to improved self esteem, health and well being. There are lots of studies that demonstrate how damaging this isolation can be physically and mentally. Many men who don’t find this support will often turn inward and in extreme cases it may lead to suicide.
EVEN IF WE ONLY SAVE ONE MAN THEN THE SHED CAN BE CONSIDERED SUCCESSFUL!
Men’s Sheds are a simple and effective way of addressing many of the health issues of men, and as a result reducing the cost of health care for men and improving their feelings of self worth.
In short, belonging to our Shed gives its members the feeling of belonging and gives them something worth getting out of bed for.
Shed Activities
We are a friendly bunch who always stop for morning tea and a chat. (Rule number 1).
Safety is a concern for all of us, but we have lots of people willing to show you how to use a tool, then you are responsible for yourself. So no waiting round months to get certified.
You can bring your own projects, jump in and help others with their projects or there are often shed based projects around to get involved in (these range from improving the shed to community projects).
Or you can just come along for morning tea and a chat. You won't be alone.

Positive impacts
The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) is the national service provider supporting more than 1,200 Men’s, Women’s and Community Sheds and is recognised as one of Australia’s largest male-based community development organisations.
AMSA was established in 2007 by a collection of Australian independent community-based Men’s Sheds to represent, support and promote the Men’s Shed movement. It was founded on the principle of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. It acts as a central hub for information exchange.
