2013 Ballarat Conference

5th National CONFERENCE – 27-29 October 2013

Ballarat Lodge and Convention Centre

“…We have all been very privileged to share these two days together. Take home all the important messages to everyone in your networks who were unable, for whatever reason, to come. Become an informed advocate for men’s sheds in whatever way you can, including politicians of all flavours and at all levels as well as the media.”

Professor Barry Golding, School of Education & Arts, University of Ballarat
Patron of the Australian Men’s Shed Association

The 5th National Conference aimed to promote the spread of Sheds throughout the nation and showcase the Australian Men’s Shed movement across the world. The focus was on sharing knowledge, providing practical support through the conference theme; Men’s Sheds: A Sustainable Future,  highlighting the success that men’s sheds have achieved and looking to the future growth and development.

Over 350 delegates represented a broad range of experiences, including ‘shedders’, health and aged care professionals, State and Federal Government Departments, educators, policy makers and representatives from International Men’s Shed organisations and the Corporate world.

  • Mr Peter FitzSimons, columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald and Sun-Herald,  television presenter, represented Australia in Rugbyand author.
  • Noela MacLeod, National President of the Country Women’s Association of Australia since August 2012.

A variety of workshops were offered across the two days facilitated by ‘shedders’, health professionals, AMSA staff as well as InterRisk Insurance Services and SMART program seminars.

The Social calendar included a Sunday breakfast at Ballarat East Men’s Shed, the Welcome Reception on Sunday evening at Sovereign Hill ( including two tours) and a fantastic Dinner on Monday evening where over 250 delegates were highly entertained by Bettina Arndt as well as Mike Brady- singer, composer (‘Up there Cazaly’) and raconteur.
